The basic structure of the e-Catalunya platform consists of four zones or areas:

Groups	Personal zone	Social network	Members

Structuring the platform in four zones or areas makes it possible to organise information and knowledge more systematically, both for individuals and for groups taking part in the project.

The Main page of the e-Catalunya platformhas the following sections: Welcome, Public access portals (list of portals to which any user has access, without needing to be a member), Highlights and News (events and significant new developments concerning the e-Catalunya platform).

When you have logged on using your user name and password, the Main page shows the sections for My portals (list of portals to which you belong), Other public portals and New in my portals (with the latest additions to the portals you are a member of).

The Main page of the portal shows you the Welcome page, a description of the portal and What's new in the portal (the latest additions by members, new groups, information about members who have joined recently) and the Top topics area (showing the words appearing most frequently in the sections to which you have access).

In the first week after joining the platform you should update your profile and change your password to another of your own choice (you can do this from the Main page during the first week or by going to the Personal area).

1- Groups

Shows all the groups to which you have access as a user (both public and private). You can go into any group of which you are a member and participate in group activities (take part in a forum, contribute to a Wiki, etc.).

From this area you can also look for groups (from those listed and by category) and join them.

2- Personal zone

Use this area to access or edit your personal details on the platform, set privacy levels for your details and see the groups to which you belong, your contacts and the contacts you have pending validation, access your own tools (e.g. your own personal Blog) and set privacy levels for these tools.

3- Social network

This is a quick, simple way to see a graphic representation of your social network, showing your contacts (other members of the platform you have invited to form part of your network) and your contacts' contacts with information about each of them.

4- Members 

This option allows you to locate other users and look for their details, see the list of users and their contact and personal details.
